The top knot, wheelhouse, and turnbuckle may sound like 1980’s dance moves, however, these names describe the shapes of Bavarian-style pretzels created by Eastern Standard Provisions. This Boston-based snack company was recently launched by Eastern Standard restaurant owner, Garrett Harker, with a team of co-founders including baker Lauren Moran, an alum of Harker’s restaurants and owner of Honeycomb in Hamilton.

Made with malted barley flour and malt syrup, these chewy, bronzed beauties are super-sized. Hand-rolled, twisted, looped and knotted, each pretzel is crunchy on the outside and light and airy on the inside. ESP also offers two excellent dipping sauces to accompany their pretzels: Get Lost Maui Onion Mustard and Haus Party Queso Dip (think cheesy with a velvety texture, mixed with spicy Tabasco). It’s no wonder our team reflected their spicy and playful personality with a colorful brand to showcase their top-notch offerings.

Acting as a natural sidekick to beer, the pretzels are sold mostly at restaurants or brewery taprooms — Mystic Brewery, Lord Hobo, Mighty Squirrel, and Notch Brewing to name a few. The great news is that Eastern Standard Provisions also ships their goods, so you can get a package with baking instructions sent right to your door. The pretzels retail between $17.99 and $34.99 (depending on the style and amount).
