The Perfect Fit.

The Need

Marathon Sports came to 36 with three, existing brands that all feature a consistent “vibe” throughout: a down-to-earth atmosphere, an attentive, knowledgeable staff, and a fun, candy-shop-like feel for runners.

While these brands were local legends, they hadn’t been updated in decades, and there was a huge opportunity to re-introduce Marathon Sports and its companies back to customers. There was also a need to reconstruct the company websites to give them a fresh, modern feel and sync up their backends with their inventory (so that they could all be controlled by the same administrator with ease).

The Approach

Our goal was to discovery and harness all the great things that makes Marathon, Marathon.  The first step in our process was intense discovery.  This included multiple workshops, focus groups and customer interviews.  The team also got to experience the Marathon Sports Way first-hand in various retail stores they manage.

We then took all that research, created user journeys, a fresh new positioning, and a brand strategy to build on.  Once that strategy was nailed down, it was pointer to pixel and we began to create a new visual system, interactive ecommerce website, and more.

The Solution

36 developed a brand essence that carries across all of their companies and marketing materials. That essence led to the development of a new family of logos, color palettes, and visual systems (to ensure their fresh, new branding would be used as prescribed). Utilizing the research we conducted, we also created a series of user journeys that allowed us to design and develop a website that would create the most user-friendly and effective experience for their customers.
